Just three weeks before launch, a new Edge magazine cover story has given the clearest look yet at the GTA 6 map size and the scale of Leonida. Rockstar also announced the Grand Theft Auto VI Original Score by Justice on 29 October 2026. Here is everything confirmed so far.
GTA 6 Map Size: Twice as Big as GTA 5
According to Edge, the state of Leonida, including Vice City and its surrounding areas, is roughly twice the size of the GTA 5 map. Rockstar says the total landmass is nearly as large as the playable maps of GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined.
Rockstar is also focusing on density, not just size. Co-studio head Aaron Garbut said the game has “an order of magnitude more interiors” than previous titles, so players can enter far more buildings than before. Reports also say much of Leonida opens up early, so players can explore without finishing the story first.
GTA 6 NPC Animations: 600,000 Reasons Leonida Feels Alive
Edge confirms that Rockstar created around 600,000 animations for the game’s pedestrians. Every NPC is art-directed, and characters have distinct personalities that shape how they react to the player, including how aggressive they are. A dedicated team focused on making these characters feel believable.
The result should be everyday interactions that feel more natural and less predictable than in earlier Rockstar games.
GTA 6 Original Score by Justice: Release Date and Formats
Rockstar has announced that the Grand Theft Auto VI Original Score by French electronic duo Justice will be released on 11 December 2026. It will be available on major streaming services, double CD and triple vinyl, including a limited crystal-clear vinyl edition.
The album has 30 tracks, plus digital bonus material. It includes the new single “Pusher” featuring Gesaffelstein, which is out now. This score is separate from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, which launches with the game on 19 November 2026.
GTA 6 Release Date and Platforms
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is a single-player release at launch.
GTA 6 Online Release Date: Still Unannounced
Rockstar has not officially announced a GTA 6 Online mode or any release date. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg he expects multiplayer to arrive in 2027, but Rockstar has not confirmed this, so treat it as unverified. Take-Two has said it will keep supporting the current GTA Online after GTA 6 launches.
What the GTA 6 Map Size Means for Players
A map twice the size of GTA 5, far more interiors and a deeply animated population all point to a bigger, denser open world. With the 19 November launch only weeks away, fans will soon see how Leonida plays for themselves.
