The Modern Warfare 4 launch has arrived. Infinity Ward’s latest shooter is now available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2, following a campaign early access period that drew unusually strong player feedback.

Modern Warfare 4 Launch Date and Platforms

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 released on Friday, October 23, 2026. It is available on:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC via Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC
  • Nintendo Switch 2

It is also the first mainline Call of Duty built only for current-generation hardware, so there are no PS4 or Xbox One versions. The Switch 2 release marks the series’ return to Nintendo hardware for the first time since Call of Duty: Ghosts in 2013.

Modern Warfare 4 Early Access Reception

Players who digitally pre-ordered got campaign early access starting October 16. Reaction on Steam was very positive. By October 20, roughly 93% of more than 4,700 user reviews were positive, which is the strongest Steam score for a Call of Duty title in over a decade.

One caveat: these reviews cover the campaign only, since multiplayer was not yet available. Players have mainly praised the storytelling, pacing and more grounded tone. The campaign spans 16 missions across locations including the Korean Peninsula, Paris, New York and Mumbai.

What’s Included After the Modern Warfare 4 Launch

The full release includes three main modes:

  • Campaign: A story-driven single-player experience.
  • Multiplayer: Competitive modes with new maps, weapons and progression.
  • DMZ: The extraction-style mode returns. Early access to DMZ reportedly began October 20 for pre-order owners.

Modern Warfare 4 Launch and Game Pass

Modern Warfare 4 is not on Game Pass at launch. It must be purchased on the PlayStation Store, Xbox/Microsoft Store, Steam, Battle.net or the Nintendo eShop. Reports indicate it is not expected on Game Pass until October 2027 at the earliest.

What Comes Next

The real test begins now that multiplayer is open to everyone. Player counts, balance updates and Season 1 content will show whether the campaign’s early momentum carries over to the full game.
